Frontline runner in the 2019 Anambra State House of Assembly elections, Ezeno GOC was one of the guests that stormed the 15th edition of the Sun Awards which was held at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria ISland, Lagos, recently which was chaired by Idika Kalu, former finance minister.
Commending The Sun Newspapers for a successful awards and 15th anniversary celebrations, the President General of Akpo Community in Aguata South Constituency, Anambra State said: "It is great to attend this event and witness The Sun Newspapers annual awards which is totally based on merit. I want to congratulate Dr. Uzor Orji Kalu, the Publisher of The Sun Newspapers and his team for rewarding excellence and creativity and also to congratulate The Sun as it marks its 15th anniversary."
On why he is gunning for the Anambra State of Assembly seat for Aguata South Constituency he continued: "It is all about service. In my capacity as an employer of labour, community leader, philanthropist and politician and by virtue of my extensive experiences in public service both in Aguata South Constituency and beyond, I have first hand experience of the challenges facing our people which my team and I have tried to tackle with encouraging results which have earned me several awards for public service nationally.
The evening was animated by Bovi Ugboma and Tuface Idibia who thrilled guests with good music and rib cracking-comedy while the event was anchored by A-list compere and former BBA host, IK Osakioduwa.
Sergent Chukwu Iboko ressurrects
Remember Sergent Chukwu Iboko? the gallant policeman who laid his life and successfully aborted a bank robbery in Owerri, Imo State last year at a branch of Zenith Bank? Well, he has not been frogmen. The sum of N8m was raised for the family for his rare display of bravery and he was bestowed with the Hero of the Year award. Among others, his kids, seven in number were also offered scholarships up to the university level by the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Announcing the scholarship award, the Managing Director of NDDC, Nsima Ekere said the only way to keep the memory of late Iboko’s heroic exploits alive was to ensure his children get quality education.
I'm dedicating my award to the people of Rivers State – Nyesom Wike
Rivers State Governor, NYSE Wike, emerged Governor of the Year and he expressed his determination and commitment to work for the people of the oil-rich state. Speaking, Wike assured that he would continue to serve the people of Rivers State and win more accolades and thanked The Sun Publishing Limited for finding him worthy to win the award back to back in 2017 after winning that of 2016 and dedicated his award to the people of Rivers State and my wife.
Gov. Ambode's moment
Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode emerged The Sun Man of the Year 2017 and on ground to receive his award on his behalf was the Commissioner for Tourism, Mr. Steve Ayorinde.
The Governor noted that the state was working because taxpayers were living up to their obligations by paying their taxes. He said: “It is with these taxes that the state is carrying out massive infrastructural development and also providing insurance for security men, especially the Police in the state,” he said.
According to him, the state pays N10 million to the relatives of any policeman who dies in active service and N5 million to any policeman that is injured on duty. While dedicating the award to tax payers in the state, he said it would spur him to do more.
Thank God I have been found worthy to win –Saraki
Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki was not left out. Receiving his award he said that he would continue to work for the people of Nigeria. He said: "The Sun is an institution that speaks for the people and I want to thank the management for finding me worthy for the award.
“On behalf of my family, constituency and colleagues who voted for me, I want to thank The Sun for finding me worthy for this award. When I was the governor of Kwara State for eight years, I expected The Sun Awards but I never got it but I thank God I have been found worthy this time. It is an award from a great institution.”

LIfetime Achievemnt Awards
Mallam Ismaila Isa Funtua, Prince Samuel Adedoyin and former Vice Chancellor of University of Benin, Prof. Grace Alele-Williams all got the Lifetime Achievement Awards. Governor of Ebonyi State, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government (SSG), Prof. Bernard Odoh, and his Kebbi State counterpart were awarded for their Outstanding Performance in Agriculture while Dr. Chika Okafor won the Business Person of the Year Award. On his part, emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II who was represented by the Group Managing Director of Freedom Radio, Alhaji Abbas Muhammad Dalhatu got the Courage in Leadership Award.
